We are proposing to replace the “jobs for life” provision with one that provides employment security for those employees who have spent the bulk of their career working for the city - specifically, those long-service employees with 25 years or more of seniority. In addition to a modest, one-time lump-sum payment for Local 416 members, the new offer will modify the “jobs for life” program given to the union in 2002 and enhanced in 2005. We can remain hopeful that the Union will in the very near future, table meaningful counter-proposals.
